Updates made to DEC hunting app

The state Department of Environmental Conservation is touting some new additions to its free hunting app for smartphones.

Hunters who use the free app will now be able to upload harvest information and access their hunting license information even if they are out of cellphone service range.

The app allows hunters to access the latest fish and wildlife news, detailed hunting and fishing season information, species information, weather alerts, social media connections and GPS mapping capabilities.

“The new app features also allow users to share harvest reports with friends and followers on Facebook, send feedback to DEC, and access DEC resources while afield,” a press release from DEC said. “As a reminder, it is a legal requirement to report all deer, bear and turkey harvests within seven days of harvest. Harvest information is critical to wildlife management and helps determine the overall health and population of a species and set future hunting seasons and limits.”

The app is available for Apple and Android devices, and can be found in the app store.
