Mountain Lake PBS to host community forum with Stefanik

PLATTSBURGH — Mountain Lake PBS will tape and livestream a community forum with U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 8.

The forum will be devoted entirely to questions and comments, selected at random, submitted by studio attendees as well as community members online. Thom Hallock, producer and host of the station’s “Mountain Lake Journal” news show, will moderate the discussion.

As seating is limited to 100 attendees in the Mountain Lake PBS studio in Plattsburgh, those who wish to attend the taping are asked to sign up for a lottery to receive tickets at mountainlake.org/stefanik, or by calling 518-324-0155. Registration for the lottery will remain open until 10 a.m. Monday, May 1. Those selected will be notified by phone and/or email on May 1.

The taping of this forum will stream live online at mountainlake.org/stefanik. Those unable to attend the in-studio audience are invited to join the conversation with questions and comments while watching the live stream of the taping.

Mountain Lake PBS will broadcast the forum at 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 9.

Stefanik, R-Willsboro, has recently faced criticism, especially by Democrats and other progressives in her northern New York congressional district, for not holding public town-hall-style forums. She has countered that activists often make town hall forums unruly. She instead holds “tele-town hall” call-in sessions and regularly meets with constituents individually or in small groups. Also, on Tuesday, she held a “Coffee with your Congresswoman” question-and-answer session in Lyons Falls.
