Music studio, store seeks to open in Tupper Lake

TUPPER LAKE — The Joint Planning Board held a public hearing on a special review use permit for Faust Junction Music Wednesday night.

Tupper Lakers Scott Gravlin, Mike Jones and Ron Jones submitted the application for the permit to establish a used musical instrument store and recording studio at 41 Main St., which previously served as Tony’s Barbershop.

“I think it’s a wonderful idea, but I do have a question,” resident Jan Yaworski said. “As far as the music studio is concerned, are they taking precautions as far as any soundproofing in the walls, that type of thing? You know, so you wouldn’t actually hear if they decided to practice at 2 a.m. or something.”

The board said as the applicants were not in attendance, they could not answer the question, however town planner Paul O’Leary said the application read that the sound studio would be “sound-dampened for minimum sound outside the sound studio.”

O’Leary said he would reach out to the applicants to get a clearer definition of sound dampening and the board decided to table the decision on the application until the next meeting to speak with the applicants.

The board also approved moving its next meeting from Feb. 22 to Feb. 28 as O’Leary and newly appointed Chairman Shaun Stuart would not be able to attend the original date.
