VIC hosts Adirondack Rural Skills and Homesteading Festival

PAUL SMITHS – The Adirondack Rural Skills and Homesteading Festival at the Paul Smith’s College VIC aims to show people how to live off the land, lead a more sustainable lifestyle and how to save money in the process.

This year’s celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and will showcase historical traditions, as well as modern tools and techniques for safe and practical rural living with an Adirondack flair.

Workshops and demonstrations will appeal to a wide range of interests, including the following:

-Canning food

-Making cider

-Using renewable energy

-Small-scale farming

-Cordwood construction

-Primitive skills.

Exhibitions will include logging and farming with draft horses, sponsored by the Paul Smith’s College Draft Horse Club, and a demonstration of competitive lumberjack sports by the Paul Smith’s College Woodsmen’s Team. Franklin County Cornell Cooperative Extension is partnering with Paul Smith’s on this year’s festival.
