Stec, Barkenhagen will debate Oct. 20

The two candidates seeking to represent the North Country’s Assembly District 114 will debate at a Saratoga Springs-based television station’s studios at 9 a.m. Oct. 20. The closed-door debate will be live-to-tape, to be broadcasted shortly thereafter at a time and date to be determined by the station.

Republican incumbent Dan Stec of Queensbury and Green Party challenger Robin Barkenhagen, an art gallery owner in Glens Falls, will debate on the TV station’s political show “Beyond the Headlines” show, hosted by former Saratoga Springs Mayor Michael Lenz, Barkenhagen said Wednesday. Andrew Gabriels, producer and director for Look TV, confirmed the debate time this morning.

The two candidates seeking to represent the North Country’s Assembly District 114 will debate next month.

The debate will be broadcast on Time Warner Cable’s channel 68 in parts of Saratoga Springs and parts of Saratoga County and on channel 8 in Warren and Washington counties. Assembly District 114 includes Essex and Warren counties and the northern parts of Saratoga and Washington counties.

For people in Essex County who have Time Warner Cable, the best way to view the debate is to watch it online at the “Beyond The Headlines” website, www.looktvonline.com/beyond-the-headlines. Gabriels said last week that the video of the debate would be posted there the day of or the day after the event.

“Beyond the Headlines” is normally broadcast from 8:30 to 9 a.m. on Sundays and from 6:30 to 7 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Barkenhagen was previously interviewed at the Look TV studios in Saratoga Springs last month, where he said he brought up the idea of the debate.

Both Stec and Barkenhagen also plan to attend the Friends of Thurman Town Hall Meet the Candidates Night at 7 p.m. Oct. 20. Stec and Barkenhagen will be two of many candidates at the event, including those from Warren County.

Each candidate touts their respective Facebook pages as the best way to find out the latest about their campaigns and learn about their platforms. Stec’s is at www.facebook.com/assemblymandanstec. Barkenhagen’s is at www.facebook.com/votebarkenhagen.
