Judge lets DEC resume work on trail

ALBANY (AP) – New York environmental officials say a court has cleared them to resume work on an Adirondack snowmobile trail.

The state Department of Environmental Conservation says a trial court judge has denied a motion for a preliminary injunction against a multi-use trail connecting Newcomb, Minerva and North Hudson.

The injunction was sought by the environmental group Protect the Adirondacks, which claimed the planned tree-cutting would violate the “Forever Wild” provision of the state constitution. The group’s executive director told the Times-Union of Albany that they plan to appeal the decision on the injunction. He noted that the lawsuit is still in place.

The DEC says it has worked carefully to develop the trail with minimal impact on Forest Preserve lands.
