Wild fire on Lower Saranac Lake quickly contained

SARANAC LAKE – State forest rangers responded to a wild fire on an island in Lower Saranac Lake Tuesday afternoon.

The fire was on Goose Island, home to one of the camp sites of the Saranac Lake Islands state campground, and was spotted and reported by an off-duty forest ranger.

The off-duty ranger and members of the public had the quarter-acre fire almost completely under control by the time two responding forest rangers arrived on scene. The Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department also responded, but was called off by the rangers who stated the fire was under control.

Rangers completed the fire suppression before leaving the island at 8 p.m.
