Waldo search in Lake Placid shops

LAKE PLACID – Where’s Waldo? Somewhere in Lake Placid.

The famous children’s book character in the striped shirt and black-rimmed specs is visiting 25 local businesses throughout the community this July. Find Waldo Local is a summer activity for residents and visitors, and a way to support local businesses and the Shop Local movement in Lake Placid, including at the Bookstore Plus, Emma’s Lake Placid Creamery, Wyatt’s BBQ, Ruthie’s Run, Eastern Mountain Sports, Darrah Cooper Jewelers, Adirondack Chocolates and Green Goddess Natural Market.

Anyone can pick up a “Find Waldo Local in Lake Placid, NY!” passport, which contains the names of all the participating sites, and get their passport stamped or signed for each Waldo they spot. Collecting store stamps or signatures at 20 or more businesses will grant entry into a grand-prize drawing on July 31, with the top prize being a six-volume set of Waldo books, plus gift certificates.

This year, participants can also #ColorWaldoAndWin. When they share a completed coloring sheet of Waldo on Instagram, they’ll be entered into a drawing to be one of five winners of a prize pack.

Waldo is the creation of Martin Handford, whose drawings of crowd scenes became popular in the late 1980s.

Since then, the “Where’s Waldo?” books have held a cherished spot on bookstore shelves around the world.
