NORTHAMPTON (AP) – Authorities say a 12-year-old boy has died after he went into a deep area of an upstate New York lake.

Fulton County Sheriff Richard Giardino says the incident unfolded around 4 p.m. Monday when the boy slipped from shallow water into a deeper area of the Great Sacandaga Lake.

Divers searched for about four hours before they were able to pull the boy from the lake. He was taken to a Gloversville hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities didn’t immediately identify the victim.
