Northern Forest Canoe Trail paddling festival this weekend

SARANAC LAKE – The Northern Forest Canoe Trail’s Paddlers Freshet Fest will take place Friday and Saturday.

The event celebrates the kickoff of the summer paddling season. Friday night’s presentation is free, and there is still space to sign-up for Saturday’s paddling clinics and guided trips which are suitable for beginner paddlers and families.

The event starts Friday night with a free slide show at Mount Pisgah ski lodge by Adirondack residents Jim Sausville, Mike Peabody, Nick Gowens, and Chris Burnham about their adventures-the good, the bad and the ugly-paddling the entire 740-mile Northern Forest Canoe Trail last summer.

Saturday will begin with morning paddling clinics at Lake Colby, followed by afternoon guided trips in the Saranac Lake Region. Kids 12 and under are free with a registered adult for all on-water events.

The day will conclude with a gathering at the Mount Pisgah ski lodge, where there will be a paddlers’ panel discussion, dinner, and presentation, “Paddling North American Waters” by Jack Drury and Doug Fitzgerald.

Pre-registration is required, and the public can register for just one event or the entire day at www.northernforestcanoetrail.org.
