Guideboat builders talk about their craft

SARANAC LAKE – Traditional Adirondack guideboat builders Chris Woodward, Jim Cameron and Allison Warner will discuss their craft in a panel-style discussion.

The trio will talk about their early influences, the current state of the guideboat and other relevant issues. The free event will take place at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Historic Saranac Lake’s Saranac Laboratory Museum, 89 Church St.

The owner of Woodward Boat Shop in Saranac Lake, Woodward has been building guideboats since the early 1980s. He works out of the shop that was originally used by Williard Hanmer, who made boats there dating back to 1930. Cameron’s shop is based on Upper St. Regis Lake, where he has been restoring guideboats since 1982. Warner is an educator and guideboat builder for the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake.

The event was organized by the Northern Forest Canoe Trail in partnership with Historic Saranac Lake. For more information, contact NFCT Community Outreach Coordinator Mike Lynch at mike@northernforestcanoetrail.org.

Starting at $3.92/week.
