DEC seeks help in finding missing hunter

BRANT LAKE – State Department of Environmental Conservation officials are asking the public to keep an eye out for clues to the whereabouts of a hunter missing since last November.

Thomas Messick was hunting with a group near Brant Lake when he was last seen on Nov. 15. Despite a two-month long effort by forest rangers, state police, search-and-rescue groups and hundreds of volunteers, no trace of Messick was found.

DEC is asking seasonal residents returning to the area for the summer to search their properties and outbuildings for any current or past evidence of Messick.

Messick is 82 years old, 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighs 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a camouflage jacket and red and black hat. DEC is still searching for Messick under a continuous protocol.

Anyone with any information regarding Messick’s location or information that may lead to his location are asked to contact the DEC Ray Brook dispatch at 518-897-1300. Information may be given anonymously.
