New location for Chad Martin tree lighting

TUPPER LAKE – A holiday tradition honoring a former village trustee will move to a new location this year.

The eighth annual Chad Martin Memorial Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony, hosted by Martin’s mother, Carol Conover, will take place Friday at 5 p.m. at the Municipal Park gazebo. The event had previously been held at the Chad Martin Memorial Park, formerly located on the corner of Park and Mill streets. The state Route 30 and 3 project, locally known as the “road job,” demolished the park this summer, but the trees honoring Martin were replanted in the Municipal Park, near the gazebo.

The event will feature a short ceremony and caroling. It is open to the public, and admission is free.

Martin died of cancer on Christmas Day, 2007, at the age of 34.
