KEESEVILLE – People here voted Tuesday, for a second time this year, to dissolve the village they live in.

At the end of 2014, the village of Keeseville will be no more. It straddles a county line, so starting Jan. 1, 2015, people here instead will be governed by either the town of Chestertown in Essex County or the town of AuSable in Clinton County.

Voters previously decided to get rid of the village layer of government in January, but enough people petitioned to prompt a referendum on a plan for that dissolution. The plan, which is not binding to the towns, showed taxes going down for most village property owners. It was approved Tuesday by a vote of 288-200.

The turnout was about half of the 900-plus registered voters in the village, and 44 more people than in January. About 1,800 people live in the Adirondack community, according to the 2010 census.
