Cops bust up underage drinking party

LAKE PLACID – Village police here broke up an underage drinking party over the weekend, resulting in eight arrests.

The party was reported to police at 10:09 p.m. Friday by the Essex County Probation Department.

“The probation department does periodic checks on probationers, and during one of those checks they observed what they believed to be an underage drinking party,” Lake Placid police Sgt. Chuck Dobson told the Enterprise.

Approximately 16 people ranging in age from 14 to 20 were at the private residence when police arrived, Dobson said. A subsequent investigation resulted in eight arrests:

A youthful offender from Lake Placid, who police say was responsible for hosting the party at his parents’ house, was charged with criminal nuisance, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, unlawful possession of marijuana and unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 21

Brandon Beede, 20, of Lake Placid, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana

Colin Grady, 19, of Lake Placid, was charged with unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 21

Kyler S. Coventry-Fina, 19, of Lake Placid, was charged with unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 21.

Additionally, one male and three females, who are all eligible for youthful offender status, were charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and/or unlawful possession of alcohol by a person under the age of 21.

Dobson said the illegal weapon charge for the youthful offender stemmed from the discovery of a “metal knuckle knife.” He added that there were no incidents during the investigation.

“There was a wide range of cooperation among the subjects,” Dobson said. “Some youths cooperated with law enforcement, some did not. There was no resisting arrest or anything like that.”

The subjects were ticketed and released to appear in village court later this month.
