SLHS senior awarded Tops scholarship

WILLIAMSVILLE — Justin Duprey of Saranac Lake is one of 238 scholarship recipients from Tops Friendly Markets, the supermarket chain announced June 2.

Duprey works at Tops in Saranac Lake and is a senior at Saranac Lake High School. He was awarded a $1,000 scholarship.

All Tops employees, union and non-union, their dependents and grandchildren are eligible to apply for scholarship awards ranging from $1,000 to $1,500 annually over the course of four academic years. Applicants must meet certain scholastic and work performance criteria to be eligible.

Tops announced it has awarded a total of $267,350 in scholarships to 238 employees, employees’ dependents and employees’ grandchildren for the 2021-22 academic year. Since the start of the scholarship program in 1989, Tops said it has awarded $21.7 million to over 22,000 people.

Tops, based in Williamsville near Buffalo, has stores in upstate New York, Vermont and northern Pennsylvania
