Remillard to oversee hospitals in Elizabethtown, Ti

John Remillard has been named president of Elizabethtown Community Hospital along with Inter-Lakes Health in Ticonderoga.

The University of Vermont Health Network-Elizabethtown Community Hospital’s board of directors, along with the University of Vermont Health Network Adirondack Region and Inter-Lakes Health boards of directors made the announcement this week.

Remillard has been serving both organizations since early February on an interim basis.

“I am very pleased to be joining these organizations on a permanent basis,” Remillard said. “These hospitals have many shared values, including commitment to the patients and to the respective communities. It’s an exciting time to be part of healthcare in the Adirondack region, as we shape the future of healthcare delivery throughout the area.”

The University of Vermont Health Network has been working with Inter-Lakes Health to assist the organization with its restructure. Remillard will lead the specific organizational changes at Inter-Lakes Health, while aligning the two hospitals and guiding overall plans for the future.

“The restructure of Inter-Lakes Health, which includes Moses-Ludington Hospital, will transform healthcare delivery within Essex County,” said Stephens Mundy, president of University of Vermont Health Network-Adirondack Region. “This regional effort, designed to enhance patient care, will make healthcare services more comprehensive, efficient and integrated. The cornerstones of the effort include a complete renovation of the hospital facility, partnership with a nursing home and alignment with a primary care organization. We are proud to have John leading those complex endeavors.”

Changes at Inter-Lakes Health will result in the development of a “medical village” in Ticonderoga that offers a variety of complementary health-related services located on one main campus in Ticonderoga, for the convenience of patients.

The vision is to offer a number of health-related services in one easily-accessible location including: a completely renovated outpatient care facility including the emergency department which will include observation beds, laboratory and radiology departments and specialty physician space.

The medical village campus will also offer nursing home and long-term care services, hospice care, primary care physician office space and senior housing, along with the ability to include other health-related organizations as opportunities arise.

Elizabethtown Community Hospital is also undergoing significant changes to its physical space. The hospital has recently completed the initial phase of a three-phase renovation and expansion project, and associated capital campaign.

The first phase of the renovation expanded the hospital’s footprint, allowing for more spacious patient rooms and nursing work space, while modernizing and establishing appropriate infrastructure for that portion of the hospital. Phase two of this construction project is now underway; and includes renovation of space to expand its inpatient physical and occupational therapy area within the hospital.

“There is no doubt that I am joining these organizations at a very busy time,” Remillard said. “Each organization has multiple projects underway, and there are many more to come. This position is a big undertaking, but I have confidence in the staff members at each organization – they are committed to doing the best thing for their communities. I know that I am ultimately supported by their hard work and dedication. I am excited to be a part of the future of healthcare in Essex County.”

Remillard, a native of Peru, New York, comes to these hospitals with more than 30 years of healthcare leadership experience, most recently as president/CEO of A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital in Oneonta where he served since 1989. He also spent time working at Mary McClellan Hospital in Cambridge; along with the state Department of Health.
