SARANAC LAKE — North Country Community College has announced the appointment of Thompson “Tommy” Sloan as the new student representative to the college’s board of trustees.
Sloan, a second-year criminal justice student, joined the board in August and will serve as the voice of the student body in the college’s governance.
A 2024 graduate of Saranac Lake High School, Sloan was active in soccer and served as a member of the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival Court. At NCCC, he has continued his commitment to community service, traveling to Utah earlier this year as part of an “alternative” spring break service trip and working at an animal shelter. Locally, he has also volunteered with the Saranac Lake 3P race.
In addition to his academic work and service, Sloan spends his summers working as a caretaker at a camp on Upper Saint Regis Lake near his home in Lake Clear. He enjoys outdoor pursuits year-round, including biking — motorcycles, BMX and mountain biking — and skiing in the winter.
“We are delighted to welcome Tommy to the Board of Trustees,” NCCC President Joe Keegan said. “He brings a strong voice for students, a commitment to service and a strong connection to the community. We look forward to his perspective, input and leadership as part of the board.”
Sloan will serve as the student trustee for the 2025-2026 academic year.
