New partner at LP law firm

Katherine A. Giovacco
LAKE PLACID — Katherine A. “Kat” Giovacco joined the firm of Flink Maswick Law PLLC as a partner on Nov. 16.
Flink Maswick Law has offices in the Capital District, but its home base of operation is at 2577 Main St. It traces its roots back to a law firm established at that building 50 years ago by Favor R. Smith, who merged his practice with Ed Flink’s law firm in 2004, as Flink and his firm were looking to establish a Lake Placid office to serve its rapidly growing client base. Ed Flink and Jamey Maswick, both St. Lawrence University grads, teamed up shortly thereafter, Maswick joining what was then Flink Smith Law while he was a law student at Albany Law, from which both he and Flink also graduated. Favor J. Smith has been of counsel to FM Law since its founding on Jan. 1, 2019, primarily working in the firm’s real estate, matrimonial and criminal law practice areas, as well as doing motion and appellate work in FM Law’s thriving commercial and real property litigation practices.
Flink and Maswick met Giovacco through an introduction from a fellow Essex County Bar Association member who had met her as she was laying the groundwork for her and her family’s move from Long Island to Essex County.
Giovacco first came to the North Country as a child, spending her summers on Lake Champlain after her family purchased a camp her great-grandfather built on Cumberland Head, Plattsburgh. She and her husband began vacationing in Lake Placid to enjoy the outdoors with their four children several years ago. Wanting to spend as much time in the Adirondacks as possible, they purchased a cabin in AuSable Acres.
She worked as a partner in a mid-sized professional liability defense firm, and he, a boilermaker by trade, spent nearly every weekend here traveling back and forth from Long Island. They knew they wanted to deepen their roots to the Adirondacks and raise their children in Essex County, so they purchased Elfenwood Farm in AuSable Forks in spring 2020 and made a permanent move.
