Winter Carnival king, queen to be chosen from field of 8 seniors

LAKE PLACID — Eight seniors have been chosen as the king and queen candidates for this year’s annual Lake Placid High School Winter Carnival, which will be held from Thursday, Jan. 31 to Saturday, Feb. 2.

Below is a list of the candidates and their bios.

Emma Bishop

Emma Bishop is the daughter of Brian and Danielle Bishop of Lake Placid. Her family includes brother Skyler Comins.

Born in Saranac Lake, she attended Lake Placid Elementary School.

Emma competes in softball and enjoys singing, skiing and spending time on Upper Saranac. She is the senior class president and National Honor Society vice president. She is a member of Women’s Ensemble, LPHS Music Theater and the LPHS Mentors Program. After graduation, Emma plans to pursue her interest in sports management and will be attending Endicott College.

Lindsey Rath

Lindsey Rath is the daughter of Kimberly Rath and Thomas Rath, both of Lake Placid. Her family includes sister Melissa, step-mother Emily, brothers Callaway and Sully, dogs Maccabee and Ruby, and cat Lucy.

Born in Binghamton, she attended Lake Placid Elementary School.

Lindsey competes in lacrosse, soccer and basketball. She enjoys SCUBA diving (coral reefs), science, photography, skiing and traveling. She is a member of Science Olympiad, Environmental Club, Women’s Ensemble and LPHS Music Theater.

After graduation, Lindsey plans to pursue her interest in engineering. She has applications pending at her top three schools; University of California at Berkeley, Northeastern University and the University of Michigan.

Carsyn Rissberger

Carsyn Rissberger is the daughter of Todd and Lisa Rissberger of Lake Placid. Her family includes brother Curtis, dog Remi and cat Summit.

Born in Saranac Lake, she attended Lake Placid Elementary School.

Carsyn competes in soccer and softball and enjoys skiing, boating and paddle boarding. She is a member of Band, Spanish/Travel Club and is a Youth Commission counselor. She, along with other Spanish/Travel Club members, had the opportunity over spring break 2018 to travel to Cuba.

After graduation, Carsyn plans to pursue her interest in the Spanish language while attending St. Lawrence University.

Barrett Smith

Barrett Smith is the daughter of David Smith of Malta and Christina Dock of Lake Placid. Her family includes sister Bailey. Born in Saranac Lake, she attended both St. Agnes School and Lake Placid Elementary.

Barrett competes in volleyball, alpine skiing and tennis and enjoys traveling, running and baking. She is a member of National Honor Society, Finance Club and Key Club.

She has applied to multiple schools, though she has not made a final decision.

Cooper Holmes

Cooper Holmes is the son of John and Colleen Holmes of Lake Placid. His family includes sister Shannon Langley brother Dylan Duffy.

Born in Saranac Lake, he attended both St. Agnes School and Lake Placid Elementary.

Cooper competes in soccer, hockey and track and field and enjoys singing, acting and golfing. He is a member of National Honor Society, Finance Club, Drama Club, Band and Chorus.

After graduation, Cooper plans to pursue his interest in business. He has applications pending at the following colleges: New York University’s Stern School of Business, Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business, University of Albany’s Massry Center for Business, Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and the Boston University Questrom School of Business.

Gage Perry

Gage Perry is the son of Phillip Perry and Jessica Perry of Lake Placid. His family includes dog Smokey and aunt Laice Redman.

Born in Saranac Lake, he attended Lake Placid Elementary School.

Gage competes in basketball and baseball and enjoys hunting and fishing. He is also a volunteer at the Thomas Shipman Youth Center.

After graduation, Gage plans to pursue his interest as a lineman and has applied at the Southeast Lineman Training Center.

Hayden Plank

Hayden Plank is the son of Jared Plank and Leslie Plank of Lake Placid. His family includes grandparents Christopher and Peggy Plank and Linda Hill.

Born in Albany, he attended Lake Placid Elementary School.

Hayden competes in hockey, lacrosse and soccer and enjoys running. He is a member of Environmental Club, Key Club, Mentors Program and ACC Youth Group.

After graduation, Hayden plans to pursue his interest in international relations. He has been accepted at St. Lawrence University and has applications pending at SUNY Albany, Syracuse University and Rochester Institute of Technology.

Matthew “Matt” White

Matthew “Matt” White is the son of Thomas and Nancy White of Lake Placid. His family includes brother Trent and dog Lola.

Born in Huntington, Long Island, he attended Lake Placid Elementary School. Matt competes in soccer, basketball, lacrosse and ski jumping. He enjoys fishing, biking, golfing, alpine skiing and water skiing. He is a member of the New York Ski Educational Foundation and the Lake Placid Soccer Centre.

After graduation, Matt plans to pursue his interest in engineering. He has applications pending at St. Lawrence University, SUNY Albany, SUNY Cortland and SUNY Oswego.
