High School Roundup: Blue Bombers hitters, SLP girls lax win
LAKE PLACID — Jon Caito struck out eight batters and tossed a complete game shutout en route to the Lake Placid baseball team’s 9-0 victory over the Chazy Eagles on Wednesday.
After a scoreless first inning, the Blue Bomber knocked in at least two runs across each of the next four innings to secure its fourth straight victory. The team, which lost to Chazy 10-5 on April 11, is now 8-2 overall.
Caito allowed just four hits in the game and used a change in speed and location to keep the Eagles’ batters on their heels all afternoon.
Caito also had a solid night offensively, as he and Will Landriault led Lake Placid with two hits each, while Jarrett Mihill recorded a double. The Blue Bombers had nine total hits in the game.
The Eagles recorded four hits in the game. Jake Poirier started on the mound, before Aiden Howell entered in relief in the fourth inning.
The Blue Bombers hosted Ticonderoga on Thursday. The team will compete in a tournament at Northeastern Clinton Central School on Saturday. Following that, the team will take on the Crown Point Panthers on the road at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Lake Placid 5, Chazy 3

Freshman Addisyn Colby had three hits, including a triple, to help lead the Lake Placid softball team to a stunning 5-3 win over the Chazy Eagles on Wednesday afternoon.
After giving up a pair of runs in the first inning, the Blue Bombers scored five runs in the second before holding the Eagles to just one run the remainder of the contest. Lake Placid, which lost to Chazy 13-3 earlier in the season, is now 5-7 overall and has won three of its last four outings. The Eagles fell to 7-4 overall.
The Blue Bombers had eight hits in the ball game. Colby and Brooke Beaney, a senior, each had an extra-base hit. Beaney’s was a double.
Willow Wood pitched a complete game for Lake Placid, allowing just four hits in the win. Chazy’s Kennedy Columbus also pitched a complete game.
The Blue Bombers were slated to host Ticonderoga on Thursday, before closing out the regular season on the road at 4:30 p.m. against the Northern Adirondack Bobcats.

GIRLS LACROSSE

SLP 11, Potsdam 4

Tyler Burth, a junior, connected on her 100th career varsity lacrosse goal on Wednesday, as the SLP girls defeated the Potsdam Sandstoners 11-4 on the road.
Burth scored a hat trick for SLP, which improved to 7-4 overall, while teammate Juliana Tremblay netted four goals in the win. SLP’s Emma Clark and Lizzie Harvey each scored two goals.
Harvey and Addison Colby each had two assists, while Clark, Kelsi Burth and Katy Hoffnagle added one. Freshman goalkeeper Maddie Clark had a standout performance, recording 10 saves.
SLP held a 3-2 advantage at the end of the first quarter, following two fast-break goals from Potsdam’s Rylie Bicknell, a junior.
In the second quarter, however, SLP picked up the pace, scoring four goals while giving up one to make the score 7-3 at halftime.
After the intermission, SLP netted four goals in the final two quarters, while allowing just one the remainder of the way. Both teams pressured each other in transition to keep the half low-scoring.
SLP traveled up north to face the Plattsburgh Hornets on Thursday. The team will close out the regular season with back-to-back home games, starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday against the Massena Raiders. SLP will then face Ogdensburg Free Academy at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
