Red Storm golf team claims first win

SARANAC LAKE — After dropping its first two matches of the season, the Saranac Lake golf team notched a win on Tuesday, topping the Plattsburgh Hornets 4-2 at the Ray Brook Golf Course.

The Red Storm picked up individual wins from its top-four positions.

Playing in the number two spot for Saranac Lake, Noah Jewtraw, a junior, finished with a match-low round of 42 to defeat Plattsburgh’s Porter Hackett, who shot the lowest round for his team with a 47.

After recording the lone individual win for the Red Storm on Monday against Northeastern Clinton, Carson St. Louis repeated his efforts on Tuesday, defeating Plattsburgh’s Kayden Champhane 49-57 in the third spot. St. Louis, an eighth-grader, is now 2-1 on the season.

Playing in the top pairing, Saranac Lake’s Evan Hochwald, a senior, edged Cohen Fitzwater 45-48, while eighth-grader Ryan McGinnis-Theis got past Steffi Trombley 52-65 in the fourth spot to pick up the Red Storm’s final win.

The Hornets earned its two wins at the bottom of the order, with Ava O’Brien topping Saranac Lake’s David Rascoe 53-54 at No. 5, and Plattsburgh’s Dylan Pachter defeating Cooper Patnode 50-58 in the sixth contest.

The Red Storm golf team is slated to return home for its next match against the defending Section VII Champions, the Lake Placid Blue Bombers, on Monday. The match will start at 3:30 p.m.
