Winners of the annual Ladies Fry Pan Toss
SARANAC LAKE — The temperature was around minus 10 degrees Fahrenheit by the time the skillet throwing began at Riverside Park last Saturday, Feb. 4. It had warmed up; it had been minus 30 around 8 o’clock, according to Weather Underground.
The Ladies Fry Pan Toss has been an annual element of the Saranac Lake Winter Carnival for more than 20 years. In the main event, women age 18 and up compete to see who can throw a skillet the farthest, by age group and overall. This year’s event was sponsored by Taylor Rental.
Michelle Raville was the grand prize overall winner of this year’s event, with a 50-foot throw in the 51-59 age bracket.
A separate Little Ladies Fry Pan Toss is held for girls age 6 to 17; this year’s was sponsored by the Saranac Lake Teachers Association.
Leighton Tomaszewski was the overall winner there, with a toss of 32 feet, 3 inches in the 9-12 age group.
Meanwhile, 89-year-old Marilyn Delorio became the oldest participant in the event’s history. She also won her 70-plus age bracket with an 11-foot throw.
