Red Storm golfers fall to Patriots
SARANAC LAKE — The young Saranac Lake golf team has had some growing pains this season and it showed on Tuesday in their final match of the regular season.
The Red Storm, who don’t have a senior on their roster, fell 6-0 to the AuSable Valley Patriots at the Saranac Lake Golf Club in Ray Brook.
Playing in Saranac Lake’s top spot, Noah Jewtraw, a sophomore, carded a team-low 52 but was ultimately defeated by AuSable Valley’s Porter Goodman 52-46.
Junior Colin Rutgers shot a 58, the second-lowest round, while fellow junior Ben Laba had the third-lowest with a 62.
Rutgers was defeated by the Patriots’ Jack Thomas 43-58 in the second match and Laba fell to Oliver Dorr 56-62 in the sixth match.
Saranac Lake’s trio of seventh-graders, Cooper Patnode, Ryan McGinnis-Theis and Knaullyn Durfee-Thompson, put together solid scores, but all three weren’t able to come away with an individual win.
Patnode fell to Grant Weerts 46-63, McGinnis-Theis was defeated by Jasmyne Allen 52-70 and Durfee-Thompson lost to Ethan Crowningshield 50-69.
The Red Storm golfers finish the regular season with a 2-8 record.
The team will now shift their attention to the Section VII golf championship on Thursday and Friday at the Ticonderoga Country Club.
