LAKE PLACID — USA Luge announced the resignation of head coach Robert Fegg this past Friday.

The German native, who lives in Canada with his family, spent four years with the U.S. national governing body. Fegg coached the junior national team for two seasons, starting in 2018, prior to his elevation to national team head coach in May 2020. He led the team through the 2022 Beijing Olympic Winter Games.

Fegg, who officially steps down April 1, competed for Germany from 1997-2001. A search for his replacement will begin immediately, according to USA Luge.

“We wish Robert nothing but the best as he moves forward in his career,” USA Luge CEO Jim Leahy said in a statement. “In his time with us, Robert always gave us his best efforts with passion and commitment, and kept the success of the athletes and the organization as his top priorities.”

Fegg joined the American luge federation after coaching stints in Canada and South Korea. He replaced then-U.S. head coach Bill Tavares in 2020 at the helm of the national and Olympic teams.

Tavares, the team’s head coach from 2016-2020, served the following two seasons as team manager under Fegg. After Beijing, Tavares departed USA Luge earlier this month for a position at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee Training Center in Lake Placid.
