Storm, Bombers each nab wins in Nordic skiing

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid, Keene and Saranac Lake boys and girls varsity Nordic ski teams met for the second time this season at Mount Van Hovenberg on Thursday.

On the boy’s side, Saranac Lake prevailed with a team score of 9 to top the Blue Bombers with 17.

Lake Placid’s Andrew Scanio was once again the fastest finisher, with a blistering time of 13 minutes and 51 seconds on the 5k skate course.

Saranac Lake’s Owen Keal finished in second place in 15:18, and first-year varsity skier Mason Stoddard had an impressive third-place finish in 16:56 to help lead the Red Storm over the Blue Bombers.

In the girls’ race, Lake Placid posted a single-point win over Saranac Lake, with the Blue Bombers winning with a score of 10 to the Red Storm’s 11.

Saranac Lake’s Tyler Burth notched her second straight win in a time of 18:38. She was followed by two Lake Placid skiers, Maya Garrison and Sam Damico, in 19:26 and 19:35, respectively.

The teams will meet again on Wednesday at Dewey Mountain, before heading to the Gore Mountain Nordic Center in North Creek for the annual Queensbury Invitational on Saturday.
