Red Storm finish strong in loss to AuSable Valley

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake girls varsity soccer team was defeated 5-0 by the AuSable Valley Patriots on Friday.

In the first half, the Patriots’ Lydia Bruno, Jillian Bezio, Jenna Stanley and Addie Stanley each scored to make the game 4-0.

“Ausable was more physical and played with more intensity than we did in the first half,” Saranac Lake coach Jason Wamsganz said in a statement. “They got on the scoreboard early and we had a tough time matching their play. We made a few adjustments at halftime and decided to become a more physical team in the second half.”

In the second half of play, the Red Storm played tight defense on AuSable Valley and only allowed on goal. Kamryn Bezio scored the final goal for the Patriots.

“I am very proud of the way the girls responded and actually became the more physical of the two teams,” Wamsganz said. “The score definitely reflected our hard work and style of play in the second half. This was our third game this week against arguably the three strongest teams in the league.”

Karlie Goetz and Emma Wood played well in net for the Red Storm. The two, combined, had 16 saves.

Going forward, the Red Storm will travel to take on Northeastern Clinton on Thursday.
