Wild Card game decides Riverpigs fate

TUPPER LAKE — After finishing in second place in the Empire Professional Baseball League, the Tupper Lake Riverpigs will be forced to play a single elimination Wild Card game against the Plattsburgh Thunderbirds at the Municipal Park in Tupper Lake today at 6:30 p.m.

Throughout the season, the two teams have faced each other 12 times, with the Riverpigs winning seven of those games. The Thunderbirds have not seen much luck recently, as they have lost five straight games.

Edward Salcedo, who is tied for the most home runs in EPBL with six, is expected to be a key player in the game. Robert Antunez, is also expected to be a major factor as he leads the league in both hits and runs batted in.

The Wild Card game is a familiar spot for the Riverpigs as it lost to the Brilliance Sox, who are no longer a team in the EPBL, in its i naugural season last year. All games in the EPBL were played in Pennsylvania last year because of the pandemic.

The winner of the game will face the Saranac Lake Surge in the best of five EPBL Championship Series, which will start on Thursday.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate and on the EPBL website.
