New Tri-Lakes youth hoops league forming

A new youth basketball league is forming in the Tri-Lakes and surrounding communities with most of the practices and games taking place on outdoor courts.

The Placid League is open to boys and girls entering grades fourth through eighth in the upcoming school year and will feature teams based in Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, Lake Placid and Keene.

Once youngsters are signed up they will be assigned to teams. There will be two age groups and a league for boys and girls. Games are slated to run from May 23 through Aug. 15 and will take place on Sunday evenings at 5:30 and 6:30 p.m.

COVID-19 protocols will be in place for the Youth Summer Basketball League.

The protocols include:

¯ All basketball players will wear masks

¯ Parents, family members, coaches and friends will wear masks while watching the events.

¯ Balls and all equipment will be cleaned regularly.

¯ Indoor, inclement weather situations will require a 15 minute airing and cleaning of all bleachers before new groups can come into the gymnasiums.

¯ Indoor and outdoor games will require social distancing.

Parents and players will have access to leaderboard and team records, and more information will include team and individual statistics.

To sign up, boys and girls from each town and surrounding communities should contact the area leader closest to their homes.
