ORLANDO, Fla. — Aimee Caligiore’s most recent efforts in a National Women’s Golf Association tournament produced an eighth-place finish April 20-21 at Hawk’s Landing Golf Club in Orlando. Her rounds of 73-72 totaled five over par 145 in a tightly bunched field.

The 36-hole event was impacted by five inches of rain that fell in the days immediately prior to the tournament and into the opening round. It forced organizers to curtail round one to nine holes, with the 27-hole completion on day two.

“The course played long and soft but drained amazingly well,” said Caligiore. “The greens held their speeds and were pretty quick considering all the rain.”

The Lake Placid native and St. Lawrence University All-America recorded 27 pars and two birdies, and had nothing worse on her scorecards than bogey on the 6,200-yard track located at the Orlando World Center Marriott.

“I had many good looks (at birdie) and rolled a lot of really good putts that just didn’t go in,” she continued. “You get those days in this game. My ball-striking was exceptional, thanks to the work I’ve done with my coach Nick Adcock. I was very happy with my consistency. This was just my second tournament of the season, and I feel like I’m in great shape for the rest of the year.”

The Hawk’s Landing tournament featured 2010 U.S. Women’s Open champion Paula Creamer, of nearby Windermere, playing her way into form after being sidelined by a wrist injury. She finished in a tie for second place at 1 over par 141.

The winner, Megan Osland, shot 1 under par 139. The Kelowna, British Columbia resident, who graduated from San Jose State, staged a massive rally, ending her tournament with a 5 under par 65. Osland’s round produced 10 birdies, a double bogey and a closing triple bogey on the island green, par three 18th. The flagstick was positioned just five paces on to the front of the two-tiered green and three paces from the right fringe with an unpredictable breeze complicating club selection. The hole has traits of the famous 17th at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.

Caligiore is now eyeing U.S. Women’s Open qualifying on May 3 in Bradenton, Florida, followed by more NWGA events. June will be a busy month with three tournaments. She’ll make her annual trip to Connecticut for the Hartford Women’s Open that she captured in 2019, followed by the Connecticut Women’s Open in Old Lyme and the Michigan Women’s Open at Crystal Mountain to close the month.
