SL sweeps Tupper in hoops, LP girls fall
SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake boys and girls basketball teams earned victories over Tupper Lake on Tuesday.
Playing at home, the Red Storm girls triumphed 42-15 for their second victory over the Lumberjacks in as many days. Meanwhile, Saranac Lake’s boys hosted Tupper Lake and claimed a 66-31 win in the Red Storm’s first game of the season.
In the girls matchup, senior Kelsey Leeret finished with a game-high 14 points, while Alison Hewitt totaled 10 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double to lead Saranac Lake. Marley Small also hauled down eight rebounds for the winners.
“It was a great team win moving us to 2-0 in our season,” Red Storm coach Chad LaDue said. “I thought we shared the ball well and could see us getting better with each minute of play.”
Saranac Lake’s boys used a balanced attack on offense with four Red Storm players scoring in double figures.
Nate McCarthy led the effort with 20 points, Landon Faubert chipped in 16, Brady Yando added 12 points and James Catania scored 10 points. Saranac Lake knocked down eight three-pointers in the game, including four from Faubert.
Eli Kulzer scored eight points to lead the Lumberjacks.

WILLSBORO — On Tuesday, Lake Placid’s girls had a tough time containing Willsboro’s Bella Harrison in a 40-35 loss to the Warriors. Harrsion dominated on offense and on the glass, finishing with a game-high 20 points and 24 rebounds. Arnita Cecunjanin led the Blue Bombers with 15 points in a losing effort and Deiddra Kellerman chipped in five points.
The loss dropped Lake Placid’s girls to 1-2.
