LAKE PLACID — Senior Matt Brandes had it all working for his Lake Placid Blue Bombers Wednesday.

He scored 22 points, and the Blue Bombers came away with a 51-26 win over Chazy in Mountain and Valley Athletic Conference boys basketball.

Playing tough defense in their first game of this condensed season, the Blue Bombers got off to a rousing start while building up a 28-2 halftime lead.

“We came out and played extremely well defensively, with a steal and layup right off the bat,” said Lake Placid coach Brian Brandes. “The kids enjoyed themselves, and all my bench got playing time.”

Lake Placid finished with seven made threes in the game thanks in part to Brandes as well as P.J. Colby, who both knocked down two shots from behind the arc in the Blue Bombers first game of the season.

Colby scored seven points, while Jack Armstrong, Zach Gavin and Hayden Tremblay all had five.

Malachi Hunyor and Patrick Dwyer each came away with six points to pace the Eagles in the points category.

Brandes said Lake Placid’s boys are looking at playing between eight and 10 games.

“This season is all about having fun. That’s our goal,” Brandes said. “There were a couple of kids on the fence about playing, but after the first couple practices, they were all in.”

The Blue Bombers will be back on the court again today for a home doubleheader against Seton Catholic.

The boys varsity contest is slated to start at 5 p.m. with the girls game following at 7 p.m.
