Red Storm take advantage of fast start to beat Schroon

SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake girls basketball team burst out of the gate then held on the rest of the way to secure a 47-40 victory over Schroon Lake on Monday.

The Red Storm took a 19-4 lead in the first quarter and went into the locker room at halftime ahead 24-16.

“We came out and had our best quarter of the season,” Saranac Lake coach Chad LaDue said. “I thought we shared the ball the best in the first than we have all year. Then Schroon Lake did the same in the second quarter.”

Nora Glover led the way for the Red Storm with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Kelsey Leeret added 12 points and Alex LaDue contributed seven.

“On defense in the second half, we got back on defense and made them beat us five on five, and our defense was the key to closing out the game,” coach LaDue said.

Saranac Lake improved to 5-4 with the win and will face Plattsburgh at home on Wednesday.
