LAKE PLACID — Considering the injuries the Lake Placid girls soccer team endured, the Blue Bombers came through with a solid season in 2019.

Four players from the squad were recognized for outstanding efforts by being named to Northern Soccer League Division II all-stars.

Rylee Preston received the league’s highest honor as the 2019 NSL Division II Most Valuable Player. Preston was the Blue Bombers junior sweeper and a team captain.

“Rylee has exceptional speed and does a great job stopping the opposing attacks,” Lake Placid coach Heather Brewer said. “She can attack from the back and does a great job of distributing the ball. She played a huge role in our team only letting in 10 goals during division play. She was also the strongest sweeper in Division II.”

In addition to being honored in the North Country, Preston was also a fifth-team all New York State all-star selection.

Despite playing just seven games before being lost for the rest of the season with a leg fracture, Lake Placid forward Olivia Ferebee was still named to the NSL Division II first-team. Just an eighth-grader, Ferebee pumped in an amazing 13 goals and added two assists in seven games played, which placed her second in the league standings in scoring during the regular season.

“She is a creative player who has a dangerous shot,” Brewer said.

The Blue Bombers had two players, Shannon Bentley and Emma Adragna selected as NSL Division II second-team all-stars.

Bentley, a senior, was steady and solid as a defender and central midfielder for the Blue Bombers. She scored one goal and chipped in two assists and also served as a team captain.

“Shannon is a tenacious defender, and she did a good job of supporting our offense,” Brewer said. She took the majority of our set plays and sometimes was the only remaining starter on the field from last year’s (2018) team, when we had several injured players around mid-season.”

When Lake Placid’s attack lost some firepower when Ferebee was lost for the season, Adragna stepped up to provide some offensive punch. She finished her sophomore season with seven goals and seven assists.

“Emma is a skilled offensive midfielder, but also did a good job defending in the midfield,” Brewer said. “She played mostly midfield, but she also provided an offense spark for our team at forward, and her speed gave other teams trouble.”
