Bullock nets game-winner in OT

PLATTSBURGH — The Saranac Lake Placid hockey team claimed a big league victory, knocking off Plattsburgh 3-2 in overtime Tuesday at the SUNY Plattsburgh Field House.

SLP had lost its last two games in non-league contests in Middlebury, Vermont, at the Buster Brush tournament after Christmas, and ended the mini-skid when sophomore Brendan Bullock netted the game-winning goal with 22 seconds remaining in the extra five-minute sudden-death period to take down the Hornets.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first period, SLP jumped in front 2-1 on second-period goals by Hunter Wilmot and Tyler Hinckley.

Hornets senior Greyson Giroux then tied the score at 2-2, netting the only goal of the third just 18 seconds into the period.

Bullock lifted SLP to the win, scoring with the clock winding down in overtime off an assist by Carter Sturgeon.

Ethan Kay netted Plattsburgh’s first goal with assists going to Jackson Kain and Giroux. Seamus Andrew and Ryan Knowles assisted on the Giroux’s tally in the third period.

Hinckley, Bullock, Sturgeon, Dylan Amell and Camden Reiley picked up an assist each for SLP.

SLP outshot Plattsburgh 35-27. Anders Stanton recorded 25 saves to earn the victory and John Dublanyk made 35 stops between the pipes for the Hornets.

With the win, SLP improved to 2-0 in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference and 5-3 overall. The Hornets dropped 0-1 in the CVAC and 2-5-1 overall.

Saranac Lake will be on the road again in its next game, a CVAC contest against Northeastern Clinton Thursday at the Rouses Point Civic Center starting at 6 p.m.
