Weekend sweep for SLP boys
The Saranac Lake Placid boys hockey team earned a sweep on the road trip over the weekend with victories over White Plains and Mahopac in games played at the Brewster Ice Arena.
SLP defeated White Plains 4-3 on Friday and followed with a 7-2 triumph over Mahopac Sunday.
Dylan Amell paced SLP in Friday’s victory over the Tigers with a pair of goals and an assist. Rhett Darrah added a goal and an assist in the win, Hugo Hobson scored a goal, and Carter Sturgeon and Hunter Wilmont chipped in an assist each.
Amell’s second goal of the night was the game-winner. The senior buried the puck with 4:07 remaining in regulation and broke a 3-3 tie.
Anders Stanton was credited with 16 saves to earn the win in nets. SLP finished with a 27-19 edge in shots on goal.
Tyler Hinckley led the way for SLP Sunday, registering a hat trick and one assist. Amell added a pair of goals and an assist, and Darrah and Hobson netted one goal apiece.
Also for SLP, Ben Munn recorded two assists, and Brendan Bullock, Nick Munn and Noah Munn-Jennings added singles assists.
Brayden Munn picked up the victory in goal for SLP.
The teams were tied 2-2 after one period of play, and SLP then took control, scoring three times in the second period and burying two more pucks in the third.
Saranac Lake Placid improved to 3-1 with the wins and is now set for a showdown against unbeaten Saranac Central on Friday. The matchup is SLP’s first Champlain Valley Athletic Conference league game and will be played at the Ameri-Can North Arena in Plattsburgh starting at 7 p.m.
The Chiefs enter the contest with a 4-0 record.
Saranac Lake Placid girls
The Saranac Lake Placid girls hockey team posted a 1-1-1 mark in three non-league games played over the weekend.
SLP’s girls kicked off their run of three games in as many days with a 3-1 victory over Skaneateles Friday, tied Ithaca 1-1 on Saturday and were then blanked 3-0 by Oswego on Sunday.
SLP is now 2-2-2 and will next host unbeaten Salmon River Wednesday at the Saranac Lake Civic Center starting at 6:45 p.m. The Shamrocks head into the game with a 6-0 mark.
