LAKE PLACID — The Saranac Lake Placid girls hockey team opened its season with a 2-2 tie Tuesday night against Beekmantown in the 1932 Jack Shea Arena.

SLP scored both its goals on power plays. Ireland Preston scored the team’s first goal at the 13:15 mark of the first period, with assists going to Katelyn Gay and Dariana Patterson.

Patterson then scored SLP’s second goal 11:37 into the second period to give her team a 2-1 lead. Assists went to Syndey Dann and Danaya Patterson.

Beekmantown tied the game at 2-2 with an unassisted goal by Celine Juneau at 8:33 of the third period.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the overtime period.

Beekmantown outshot SLP 36-31. Eighth-grader Olivia Ferebee was credited with 34 saves and Beekmantown goaltender Brianne Knight had 29 stops.

Beekmantown’s Bailey Carter scored the game’s first goal, with assists going to Brooke Ruest and Amanda Cayea at 1:32 of the opening period.

Saranac Lake Placid’s season continues Thursday on the road against Plattsburgh at the Ameri-Can North Sports Center.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Saranac Lake 37, St. Regis Falls 33

SARANAC LAKE — Kelsey Leeret and Mecalyn Sousa each scored 10 points and Nora Glover pulled down 11 rebounds to lead the Saranac Lake girls basketball team to a 37-33 season-opening victory over St. Regis Falls on Tuesday night.

“It was nice to start the season off with a win,” Saranac Lake coach Chad LaDue said. “I thought our girls played very hard and shared the ball well. It’s early in our season and we will have to keep getting better each day.”

Olivia Bell contributed nine rebounds and four points for the Red Storm, while teammate Alex LaDue chipped in four points and five assists.

Saranac Lake will take on Lake Placid on the road Thursday at 7 p.m.

MONDAY

Willsboro 26, Tupper Lake 21

WILLSBORO — The Tupper Lake girls basketball team dropped a non-conference game against Willsboro on Monday by a score of 26-21.

Shannon Soucy paced the Lumberjacks with nine points, while Willsboro’s Samanta Harrison scored a game-high 12 points.

Tupper Lake is back in action Wednesday at Salmon River for another non-conference matchup.
