LP girls advance to Class C soccer semifinal
LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid girls soccer team is heading to the Section VII, Class C semifinal round after posting a 2-0 victory over Seton Catholic Tuesday in quarterfinal action.
Playing at home, the fourth-seeded Blue Bombers got second-half goals from Emma Adragna and Dariana Patterson, and a shutout effort in nets from Lea O’Brien.
Lake Placid out shot Seton Catholic 14-4.
After a scoreless first half, the Blue Bombers wasted little time getting on the board after intermission when Adragna scored 4:38 into the second half. After taking a feed from Rylee Preston at the top of the Knights’ penalty area, the sophomore beat two Knights defenders and tucked a shot into the left side of the net.
Patterson then made it a 2-0 final, scoring with just under 17 minutes left in the match.
“It was a very intensely played match,” Lake Placid coach Heather Brewer said. “We first started a little nervous; you’re supposed to win the game as the higher seed. The first half was closer in terms of playing back and forth. In the second half we went out and played a little smarter. They had some good players, but we had the momentum and also the wind for the second half.”
With the win, Lake Placid will now take on top-seed AuSable Valley in a semifinal match slated for Thursday at Beekmantown High School starting at 5 p.m.
