SARANAC LAKE — Paddlers of all ages and abilities hit the water Sunday to take part in the Celebrate Paddling Invitational on Lake Flower in Saranac Lake.

The first-year event featured a variety of distances, with boats ranging from solo canoes and kayaks to war canoes.

The Saranac Lake Area Chamber of Commerce teamed up with the Adirondack Watershed Alliance, Adirondack Lakes and Trails Outfitters and MAC’S Canoe Livery to host the inaugural Celebrate Paddling Invitational. Celebrate Paddling ADK was a month-long festival organized by several area outfitters and the Northern Forest Canoe Trail to showcase the multiple paddle sport activities available in the greater Saranac Lake region.

Sunday’s 10-mile marathon went out to Oseetah Lake and back and involved more than 40 participants. Roger Gocking and Eric Young had the fastest time of the day in their tandem kayak at 1:10:38. The fastest tandem canoe was Bruce Lee and Cathy Lipski at 1:30:40. The fastest guide boat was Andrew Jillings of Hamilton College at 1:39:59. The fastest solo canoe was Terry Kent at 1:28:42 and the fastest solo kayak was Peter Jaworski in 1:31:48.
