Lumberjacks bounce back for first win

TUPPER LAKE — The Tupper Lake High School golf team opened the season with a tough loss, but rebounded quickly to improve to 1-1 on the season.

On Monday, the Lumberjacks traveled to Canton, but the Golden Bears won the contest with a total score of 241 to Tupper Lake’s 292. Nick Skiff led the Lumberjacks with a 52 on nine holes, and Jeremiah Bell came in with a 55. Canton’s Ryan Jones led all golfers with a 41 on the St. Lawrence course.

Pat Clark tallied a 60 for Tupper Lake, Bryce Davison took 62 strokes and Riley Gillis had 63. Alex Dukette rounded out the Lumberjacks’ lineup with a 68.

On Tuesday, Tupper Lake regrouped and earned a 253-289 road win over Norwood-Norfolk. Skiff again led the ‘Jacks and tied Norwood-Norfolk’s Jacob Dutch with a 43 for medalist honors.

Gillis tallied a 49, Bell put up a 51 and both Dukette and Clark posted 55s. Logan Dominie was Tupper Lake’s sixth competition player and scored a 69.

The Lumberjacks are slated to have home matches next week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Tupper Lake takes on Colton-Pierrepont on Monday at 3 p.m. at Tupper Lake Country Club.
