HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUP: Late rally carries LP softball

CHAMPLAIN — At least on Wednesday, you could call the players on the Lake Placid softball team “the comeback kids.”

Trailing 10-8 and heading into their last at-bat, the Blue Bombers erupted for seven runs in the seventh inning to claim a 15-10 victory over Northeastern Clinton on the road.

After jumping ahead, the Blue Bombers held the host Cougars off the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh to claim their third win of the season in what Lake Placid coach Greg Hayes described as his team’s best effort to date.

Grace Crawford earned the pitching win, working five innings in relief and striking out seven.

Lake Placid amassed 17 hits in the contest. Shannon Bentley paced the winners with four hits and teammates Danaya Patterson and Ireland Preston contributed three hits apiece.

The Blue Bombers will be in action again Thursday, hosting Ticonderoga.

GOLF

Lake Placid 5.5, Moriah .5

LAKE PLACID — After winning three golf matches in the past three days, the Lake Placid golf team is set for a showdown.

The Blue Bombers latest victory came at home on Wednesday as they topped Moriah 5.5-.5 to improve to 5-0 in the Champlain Valley Athletic Conference.

Lake Placid has its toughest test so far on tap in a road match on Friday against Peru at the Adirondack Golf Club.

Competing at the Craig Wood Golf Club, Jack Armstrong, Brady Tromblay, Brendan Bullock, Cole Jacques and Chris Byrne all posted wins for Lake Placid against Moriah.

The only golfer on the Blue Bombers who did not win was their top golfer, Hunter Wilmot. However, the junior had to be pleased with his round after finishing with co-medalist honors by tying Moriah’s Thomas Clark 38-38.

Competing at No. 2, Armstrong posted a 41 to beat Moriah’s Mason Ouellette by a wide margin. Tromblay also came through with a 41 to defeat Kaden Gilbo in the third pairing.

Bullock fired a 52 to win the fourth match against Moriah’s Collin Provancha, Jacques carded a 46 for a victory in the fifth match to defeat Vance Hickok, and Chris Byrne shot a 57 to beat Logan Gilbo in the sixth match.

Lake Placid’s other two victories this week were both by 5-1 scores. The Blue Bombers topped Beekmantown Tuesday at the Barracks Golf Club in Plattsburgh and they beat Saranac Lake at Craig Wood on Monday.
