Bombers continue to roll

LAKE PLACID — The Lake Placid baseball team has had a nice little run on home turf.

On Tuesday, the Blue Bombers chalked up their third consecutive win on their diamond at the North Elba Show Grounds, taking down Northeastern Clinton 5-3 in Champlain Valley Athletic Conference action.

The win was the third in four days for Lake Placid, which has won five of its last six starts while improving to 5-4.

The Blue Bombers got another solid performance on the mound from a senior as Scott Sharlow pitched into the sixth inning before being relieved by Jake Coursen. Sharlow allowed four singles and a double and didn’t walk any Cougars batters on the way to earning the pitching victory.

Duncan Segger had a strong day at the plate for Lake Placid. In four plate appearances, the senior went 2-for-3 with two singles, two runs scored and one RBI. Sharlow, Coursen and Matt Brandes each added a single in the Blue Bombers’ six-hit effort. All three also scored a run apiece in the win.

Bryan Claudio led the Cougars’ offense, finishing with a double and a single.

The Blue Bombers are slated to play their fourth straight game at home on Thursday, and it will be a tough task as they host unbeaten Ticonderoga with the opening pitch slated to be hurled at 4:30 p.m.
