Red Storm runners pick up wins

PLATTSBURGH — The Saranac Lake girls and boys indoor track teams traveled to SUNY Plattsburgh on Wednesday night for a midweek meet.

Saranac Lake’s Anderson Gray and Tyler Martin each won individual events and were part of the winning 4×800-meter relay team that finished in 9 minutes, 22.5 seconds.

Gray won the 1,600-meter race in 4:59.3, while Martin took the 600 in 1:34.5. Teammate Devan Kidd placed first in the 55 with a time of 7.0 seconds.

Grace Clark and Edina Cecunjanin were also winners for the Red Storm in the girls’ meet. Clark won the 55 hurdles in 9.4 and Cecunjanin took the 300 in 47.3.

Saranac Central runners Cameron Duffield and Rachael Woodruff each set school records at Wednesday’s meet, with Duffield winning the 55 hurdles in 7.9 seconds and Woodruff taking the 1,500 in 5:05.3.

BOYS HOCKEY

Saranac 4, Lake Placid 1

LAKE PLACID — The Saranac Central boys hockey team scored three goals in the first period on the way to a 4-1 Champlain Valley Athletic Conference victory over Lake Placid.

It was the first win of the season for the Chiefs.

The Blue Bombers scored their first goal of the game at 3:57 of the second period, but were unable to muster another score the rest of the way.

Todd Heywood, Donovan Hack and Michael Prenoveau each scored in the opening period for Saranac and Brexton Montville put the finishing touches on the game with a goal at 1:21 of the third period.

Anders Stanton stopped 23 of the 27 shots he faced in net for Lake Placid, while Konnor Shea, of Saranac, stopped 25.
