Paul Smith’s nips Clinton in overtime

PLATTSBURGH — Nathan Smith scored the game-winning goal in the second overtime period Wednesday as the Paul Smith’s men’s soccer team opened the season with a 2-1 victory over Clinton Community College.
After both teams scored goals in the first half, the teams battled through a scoreless second half and an overtime period. Paul Smith’s goalkeeper Thatcher Morrison kept the Clinton offense at bay to set up Smith’s late-game heroics. Morrison finished with 11 saves.
Smith scored the game’s first goal 4:42 into the contest when he took a pass from Robert Kahlstrom.
Clinton responded in the 22nd minute with a goal by Justin LaPorte, of Peru, who took a feed from Darien Velasquez.
Clinton (1-3) outshot the Bobcats 11-7 throughout the game.
Paul Smith’s returns to action Saturday with a road trip to take on Maine-Machias and Unity in Yankee Small College Conference games.

OLMSTEADVILLE — The Keene boys soccer team exploded for five goals in the second half on the way to a 7-1 victory over Minerva/Newcomb.
Lucas Isham connected for two goals, while Miles Warner, Kaleb Cook and Hunter Boysse each scored once in the second half.
The Beavers outshot Minerva/Newcomb 15-3.
