LAKE PLACID — A pair of three-time Olympians highlighted last Thursday’s Meet an Olympian program at the Lake Placid Olympic Museum as U.S. biathletes Lowell Bailey and Tim Burke visited the museum to talk about their sport, pose for pictures and sign autographs.

Last winter, the 35 year-old Bailey became the first American ever to win a biathlon world championship by taking the 20-kilometer individual event. That win also secured the Lake Placid native a spot on his fourth Olympic team for the Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea in February.

Burke, of Paul Smiths, is looking forward to his fourth Olympic Winter Games. In December 2009, he became the first-ever U.S. biathlete to lead the overall Biathlon World Cup.

The Meet an Olympian program continues Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m., when two-time Olympic alpine medalist Andrew Weibrecht, of Lake Placid, returns with alpine ski team teammate Cecily Decker, of Saranac Lake. The series concludes Aug. 3, with USA Luge’s Chris Mazdzer, of Saranac Lake.

The Meet an Olympian program provides an opportunity for the public to meet several of the Lake Placid region’s 2018 Olympic Winter Games hopefuls. The Lake Placid Olympic Museum is located at the Olympic Center.
