SOUTH BURLINGTON — The Adirondack High School rugby team got off to a strong start to the season Sunday with a convincing 43-3 victory over South Burlington.

Fifth-year player Sean Lincoln gave Adirondack a 5-0 advantage five minutes into the match, but South Burlington responded after a penalty to make the score 5-3.

Adirondack answered back within two minutes when Tyler Callahan executed a pick-and-go on the weak side of the scrum to start what turned into a scoring avalanche.

The back line of Max Menkel, Lincoln and Kaleb Schlenz then connected to result in a try by Schlenz, a first-year player. Both Lincoln and Menkel went on to score a try apiece, with Callahan and rookie forward Logan Ladue each chipping in a try in the last 10 minutes.

Menkel went 4-for-7 on conversion kicks to round out the rest of Adirondack’s 43 points.
