SARANAC LAKE — The Saranac Lake boys lacrosse team returned from spring vacation and stepped on home turf for the first time when it hosted St. Lawrence Central on Tuesday at Schroeter’s Field.

And just like they did in seven contests prior to Tuesday, the Red Storm played competitive lacrosse, but this time around, they were unable to take down the top team in Section X.

With Zach St. Hilare, Luke Collins, and brothers Carter and Drew Rose leading the way, the Larries downed the Red Storm 15-9 to keep their unbeaten season going. St. Hilare notched a game-high four goals, and Collins, Carter Rose and Drew Rose buried two shots each in a match that saw Saranac Lake take early 1-0 and 2-1 edges.

St. Lawrence Central owned a 5-2 advantage at halftime and then went on to outscore Saranac Lake 10-7 after intermission to improve to 5-0 in Section X action.

Colby Jerkinsn, Isaiah Lyon, Eli Kocsis, Landon Stonn and Brodey Whitney added a goal each for the winners, and Parker Aonig recorded 11 saves in nets to earn the win.

Emery Swanson paced Saranac Lake with three goals, and DJ Morgan was the Red Storm’s top set-up player, finishing with three assists.

Junior Ward Walton had another strong effort in goal for Saranac Lake with 12 saves. The Larries outshot the Red storm 37-31.

After starting off the season at 4-0, Saranac Lake has now dropped four straight, but the loss was again a case of the Red Storm battling toe-to-toe with Section X powers while coming up a little short on the scoreboard.

“We could have been up 3-0 or 4-0 right off the bat, but we hit a post and their goalie made some great saves,” Morgan said. “I thought we played them tough. It was another one of those games where if we walked away with less turnovers and finished off our opportunities, we would have been right there.”

Saranac Lake will be back in action again Friday, hosting Potsdam starting at 5 p.m.
