Lake Placid secures golf victory

PERU — The Lake Placid golf team overcame cold and rainy conditions Tuesday at Adirondack Golf and Country Club to secure its first victory of the season.

The Blue Bombers had a decisive edge in the No. 2 through 6 spots in the 5-1 win over Peru.

Lake Placid junior Drew Maiorca turned in the lowest score of the day with a 2-over-par 38 that included a stretch of three-straight birdies on the fourth, fifth and sixth holes. Maiorca earned a point for his team with a 38-51 margin over Keegan Smith in the No. 2 spot.

Ryan Kane (41), Kevin Geesler (50), Sean Moore (43) and Lars Kroes (47) accounted for the rest of Lake Placid’s points. Peru’s Gavin Plimpton downed Bjorn Kroes 40-44 in the No. 1 spot in the rotation,

The Blue Bombers resume Champlain Valley Athletic Conference play Monday against Beekmantown at The Barracks Golf Course in Plattsburgh.

BASEBALL

Norwood-Norfolk 21, Tupper Lake 9

NORWOOD — The Tupper Lake baseball team dropped its season-opener Tuesday with a 21-9 loss to Norwood-Norfolk.

Caleb Bresett earned the win on the mound after striking out nine. He helped his own cause with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate.

Monday

Northern Adirondack 10, Lake Placid 4

ELLENBURG — The Northern Adirondack baseball team scored all its runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings Monday to lock up a 10-4 victory over Lake Placid.

The Blue Bombers opened the game with three runs in the top of the first inning, but were held scoreless until the seventh when they posted a final run.

Kamm Cassidy and Colin Hayes each went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored and Evan Damp doubled and had two RBI to lead Lake Placid offensively. Hayes doubled twice.

The Blue Bombers pitching staff of Cassidy (1 1/3 innings), Jesse Izzo (3 1/3) and Scott Sharlow (1 1/3) yielded just three hits as Lake Placid was tagged with six errors throughout the game. Izzo took the loss.

Brett Juntunen and Bailey Cross each doubled and had two RBI and two runs scored for Northern Adirondack.

Noah Lambert earned the win on the mound for the Bobcats, striking out seven and giving up just two hits over four innings of work.

SOFTBALL

Norwood-Norfolk 24, Tupper Lake 23

NORWOOD — The Tupper Lake softball team fell 24-23 in an opening-game shootout Tuesday against Norwood-Norfolk.

After going back and forth throughout the game, the Flyers brought in the winning run on a passed ball in the bottom of the fifth and final inning.

Tupper Lake senior Mya Landry connected for a double for the Lumberjacks, who fell to 0-1 with the loss.

Ashley Powell recorded 10 strikeouts to earn the pitching win for Norwood-Norfolk.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Saranac Lake 13, Potsdam 7

POTSDAM — The Saranac Lake girls lacrosse team evened its record Tuesday with a 13-7 victory over Potsdam.

Lindsey Rath racked up four goals and three assists and teammate Lydia Bullock connected for three goals to pace the Red Storm offensively. Julia Chapin and Rylee Preston each added two goals for Saranac Lake.

The Red Storm improved to 2-2 on the season.

Josie Brusso scored three goals for Potsdam (2-3).
