Saints race past Clinton in opener

SARANAC LAKE – Romeira Tucker scored 16 of her game-high 30 points in the first quarter to lead the North Country Community College women’s basketball team to an 85-41 victory over Clinton on Wednesday.

Tucker, a 5-foot-9 sophomore from Philadelphia, drained four 3-pointers in the first quarter as the Saints raced out to a 21-11 lead. Teammate Katima Smith caught fire in the second quarter with four 3-pointers and North Country went into the locker room ahead 46-21.

Smith finished with 17 points, while Brooke Howell chipped in 11 points and 14 rebounds and Sydney Craig contributed nine points.

It was the first game of the season for the Saints, who take on Mohawk Valley on the road Saturday in the Torchia Classic. The North Country men open the season Friday at Mohawk Valley Community College.
