The Paul Smith’s College golf team earned its second-straight Yankee Small College Conference championship in October at Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

The Bobcats also took home the conference’s Sportsman of the Year award while head coach Rod Bushey was named coach of the year for the 2016 season.

“This magnificent honor is a tribute to how much heart, class, integrity and pride this team has shown not only this year, but since we started our program last year,” Bushey said.

Paul Smith’s was led by Jared McAllister’s 84 at the YSCC championship tournament, followed closely by Sonny Kentile with an 86, Jon Herrman (88), Mike Gardeneer (90) and Taylor West (91).

The Bobcats’ team score of 348 was 19 strokes ahead of runners-up New Hampshire Technical Institute and Southern Maine Community College. Lee McDowell of University of Maine-Augusta shot the low round of the day at the championship to take home player of the year honors.

Matthew Merritt and Hayden Kline also competed for Paul Smith’s, while Hunter Weber, Garrett Pembroke, Ben McInerney, Sean Conroy and assistant coach Tom Cotter rounded out this year’s roster.

“It’s always hard to win a championship, let alone repeat and win two years in a row,” Bushey said. “Awesome job.”
